2019 Energy storage White paper released: By the end of the year, the cumulative operation scale of electrochemical energy storage in China will reach 1.9GW

On May 18, the "Energy Storage International Summit and Exhibition (ESIE2019)", jointly sponsored by the China Energy Research Society and Zhongguancun Energy Storage Industry Technology Alliance and the Institute of Engineering Thermophysics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was held in Beijing. The National Convention Center is solemnly convened. The "Energy Storage Industry Research White Paper 2019" was released at the opening ceremony of the conference.

According to the White paper 2019, by the end of 2018, the cumulative installed capacity of energy storage projects in China has reached 31.3GW, accounting for 17.3% of the overall scale of the global energy storage market, of which the cumulative installed capacity of electrochemical energy storage reached 1.1GW.

In 2018, the installed capacity of new electrochemical energy storage projects in China was 682.9MW, an increase of 464.4% year-on-year, mainly distributed in 26 provinces and cities, and the top ten provinces and cities in installed capacity were: Jiangsu, Henan, Qinghai, Guangdong, Inner Mongolia, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Shanxi, Beijing and Hebei.

In view of the market size of electrochemical energy storage, which has been maintaining a rapid growth momentum in China in recent years, CNESA Research Department predicts that by the end of 2019, the cumulative scale of electrochemical energy storage in China will reach 1.92GW, with an annual growth rate of 89%, and in the closing year of the "13th Five-Year Plan", that is, 2020, will continue to exceed 70% of the annual growth rate. By 2021, the application of energy storage will be rolled out in the whole field, and the trend of large-scale production is obvious, thus promoting the rational decline of the cost of energy storage system.
